Mind if we save the world?

Fellas:

While it’s vindicating to see our model reinforced, and certainly reassuring to discover that the public “gets it,” the Drudge Report’s recent publicizing of New York City’s preliminary forays into a Cab Sharing program puts considerable pressure on our schedule.

(Find out more about the Cab Sharing experiment)

But perhaps this presents us with a new opportunity: what if, rather than pioneer the model as titans of the dot com world, we were instead to partner with the city government?  Just a thought, but wouldn’t the Lady Michelle Obama be so proud of us?

CabCorner: where the streets are less cab clogged and the 4-5-6 is a less fatal option, even before the 2nd Avenue line deploys.  Saving money, saving gas, saving time, saving the world… where’s the flaw in this no brainer?

Oh… good point: the cabbies might not be so hot to the prospect of doubling/quadrupling up their fares… and that means the city might not be so keen to the idea.  But the Third Termer didn’t seem to shy away from the prospect in his State of the City address, right?    (Check out 2:07 in the video below…)

Besides, we’ve heard these fears before.  Remember the panic over the credit card machines?  How the taxi cab drivers thought they’d lose out by having to pay the surcharge to the credit card companies, only to find that the more expedient means of paying for a cab ride led to an influx of cab customers?

I mean, come on… we’re in the midst of a crippling recession.  And thanks to the geniuses down on Wall Street, it appears that far fewer players are willing to fork over the cash for a late-night ride to the spot from the bar.  If 2009 had a chapter title, it’d probably sound something like this: “If shorty really wants it, she can freaking wait for the damn subway with me!”

So excuse us if we’re trying to build a web-based model to get people back into the taxis above ground.  If all goes according to plan, Chapter 2010 will be entitled “I met my husband in the backseat of a taxicab orgy.  Thanks CabCorner!”
